Bottl
Bottles and Cans Happily Accepted:
We continue to collect your cans and bottles for the nickel deposit, which we donate to the Turning Point Program at Catholic Charities in Bath.  Leave your bags of empties behind the parish house, next to the trash cans.

Help Wanted:  A parishioner would like to hire someone to do some cutting and trimming of bushes.  If you can help out, please contact the parish office.

Please come down to the coffee hour after the 8:00 Mass:  As an expression of our gratitude for their generous support of Saint Gabriel’s over the years we have asked that today’s 8:00 Mass be said for the intentions of our local Knights of Columbus chapter.  At the coffee hour following Mass you will be able to personally thank the members of the Knights of Columbus, while enjoying a tasty tidbit.

Catholic Charities Second Collection last week:  Thank you for your heartwarming response to the appeal made by Catholic Charities Director Laura Opelt.  The second collection came to $2671 and has been sent to Catholic Charities of Steuben County.  We appreciate Laura’s sharing her perspective on the scriptures and on the needs in our community each year, and it is gratifying to see you rise to the challenge of helping to meet those needs with your financial and prayerful support.

Altar Care Volunteers Needed:  If you can help with altar care for the month of August it would be greatly appreciated.  This ministry is usually provided by two people who are willing to come in for a couple of hours each week to clean the sanctuary, restock candles and other supplies and take care of altar flowers.  Please contact the parish office if you can help in August.  The pay is very low ($0) but the benefits are out of this world.

Congratulations and many blessings to Laura Rice in her faith journey.  Laura was fully received into the church on the weekend of July 4th.

Hammondsport Vacation Bible School:  Registration forms are on the back table.  Please take one and return it to the parish office to register any child who will enter kindergarten in the fall through grade 6.  VBS runs from August 18 - 22, 9 a.m. until noon each day, at the Hammondsport Methodist Church.  If you are able to contribute any of the following items, just leave them in the large blue tub in the back of church next to the elevator:  2  12 packs of soda, 75 juice boxes, 2 boxes baby wipes, 6 Elmer’s school glue, 4 containers caramel dip, 20 large boxes instant chocolate pudding and quart berry baskets.  The school is also looking to borrow the following:  farm animals and birds (stuffed/figurines), artificial flowers, small/medium potted plants, all sizes of clay pots, bales of straw or hay, 4 children’s wagons, 4 wheelbarrows, 4 kickballs, bib overalls (large child/adult), toy tractors, patriotic swags and 6-bushel baskets.

Father Shatzel: On June 26, Fr. Shatzel successfully underwent surgery for treatment of pulmonary embolisms in his lungs. Surgeons at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse performed cardiac bypass and removed a kidney from which the blood clots had apparently originated. Following surgery, Father was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit to begin his recovery. You may send a card to:   The Reverend Richard Shatzel, Good Shepherd Catholic Community,   P. O.  Box  296,  Aurora, NY     13026

The Sick and Homebound:  If you know of anyone who is in the hospital or homebound who would appreciate a visit from Maureen O’Neill and/or the opportunity to receive Communion or the Anointing of the Sick, please contact the parish office.   Hospitals no longer routinely notify us when a parishioner is admitted. We would appreciate your calling us so we can provide spiritual care to the patient and the family.

Good News!  The Steuben County Youth Board has notified our parish Youth Group that they have been allocated a
grant of $500 from this year’s “Tyrtle Beach” fund drive.  We are very  grateful for this support of our youth group and we
appreciate the tremendous community generosity that  makes it possible.

Sausages Onions and Peppers Anyone?  As a fund and fun raiser, St. Gabriel’s Parish will be selling sausage, onion and pepper sandwiches, beef bar-be-que and 50-50 tickets during the Hammondsport Village Craft Show August 16-17 and at the Sea Plane Home Coming Weekend, Sept 12-14.  We will be needing many generous people who can volunteer their time and talents to set up, clean up, grill, assemble sandwiches and sell 50-50 tickets during these event weekends.  There are sign up sheets in the back of church.

Catholic Charities Steuben’s Fourth Annual “40 Week Club”:  Pay $1 a week for 40 weeks to be eligible for $5000 in guaranteed prizes while helping to support the Turning Point (anti-poverty) and Child Day Care programs.  You may buy your ticket at the parish office.  See the poster on the back bulletin board for details.
